About Massage Therapy
People seek massage for different reasons. A Licensed Massage Therapist (L.M.T.) offers professional, safe, effective services for clients looking to relax, ease muscle pain or tension and increase range of motion in their body. He or she holds a professional license and, in the State of Washington, has taken at least 500 hours of training. The type of massage an L.M.T. offers is strictly professional and non-erotic in nature. Erotic massage is considered illegal and a form of prostitution when there is an exchange of money between client and therapist.
Professional massage can be generally classified in two ways: to facilitate relaxation and help with the management of stress and to help heal an injury and reduce muscular tension or pain. Sometimes both classifications are part of the same massage session.
In our stressful world many people realize the benefits of a massage. Massage can become part of a persons self care in the same way they exercise and take vitamins. Some people consider massage as a way to prevent illness or emotional trauma. Others find relief in healthy touch and being nurtured in a safe environment. A massage therapist can assist in finding a proper schedule for a client based on availability, income, stress level, muscle tightness and self care goals. One client may come once a month while another may need to come every other week. It is recognized that with a regular massage routine, a client is giving to him or herself by receiving and is then able to give more of themselves in their daily life.
